AS-Life Span

I was flipping through a novel
Many times I attempted to read

All of a sudden

I noticed a little bird on the window sill
It was addressing me by name
Cheeky Cheeky Cheek
I was taken aback
That bird was a freak

Suddenly in my head there was a click

I was a lady bird
He was my huge butterfly
Flitting among the trunks of trees
We could over the hills fly
My passion would appear and disappear

With a flap of my wings
I could throw him over the windmills

Then I woke up over my book
With a late afternoon breeze
My cat’s rakish looking eyes
On a sparrow with loud cries

I hardly heard my cat’s miao
But strongly heard the chippy
Chippy chirpies of the dying sparrow

As if it were me enclosed in the cat’s paws
Among the books in silent raws
In many of them I drew
Butterflies with the shortest span
Life ever knew...
